Columbia School District #400

Shaping the Future

🚧 Sidewalk Project Update Near Our Schools 🚧

Posted Date: 04/30/26 (09:00 AM)

Columbia School District families,
We wanted to share a quick update on the upcoming sidewalk and roadway improvement project being led by Walla Walla County Public Works near our schools.
As a reminder, this is not a Columbia School District project, but one we are very thankful for as it focuses on improving student and community safety. Recently, the County made a few adjustments to the project after working with Washington State Department of Transportation and gathering community feedback:

  • Sidewalks will no longer be include on Main Street or 5th Street.
  • On Humorist Road, the plan has been updated to include a wider shared path for both walking and biking, with added separation from vehicle traffic to improve safety.
The project is expected to move forward this summer, as the County works to finalize construction funding. These improvements are designed to make it safer for students and families who walk, bike, or travel near our schools each day. We appreciate the County’s investment and their continued partnership in supporting our students.
If you would like to see more detailed information, please review the attached project map. We’ll continue to share updates as we receive them. As always, thank you for your support as we finish the school year strong!
