Columbia School District and Sodexo support student engagement and achievement by providing fresh, nutritious, and tasty meals customized to the diverse needs and desires of the student body. Our goal is to provide meal options that keep our students healthy, focused and energetic. We are always seeking your input on our food service program. Every Columbia School District student is eligible to receive free school meals for the school year. The program allows for one complete breakfast and lunch for each student.
Free meals are made possible by the federally-funded program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Although there is no application for free meals, the district does send out the Child Nutrition Benefit Application. This form is included in registration and mailed out over the summer; however, they can be filled out at any time during the year. The hild Nutrition Benefit Application requests household income information and is used to determine other federal nutrition assistance and education funding, making it critical that parents/guardians return the survey so that Columbia School District is eligible to receive state funding for important educational programs that our students are entitled to. If your family receives this form, we encourage you to fill it out and return it as soon as possible.
Household members do not have to be U.S. citizens to qualify for free meals and completing the form has no impact on immigration status.
Adult / Visiting Child Meal Pricing:
Breakfast: $3.50
Lunch: $5.50
Milk: $0.55
School Meal Charge Policy
Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year
Columbia School District participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). All students receive one breakfast and one lunch at no charge each school day. Second breakfasts and second lunches are not covered by CEP and must be paid for at the time of purchase using cash or available funds in the student's meal account. Columbia School District does not allow meal charges. Meals and other food purchases must be paid in full at the time of purchase. Students may not charge second meals, extra entrees, à la carte items, beverages, or other food purchases. District staff, teachers, visitors, and visiting children must pay in full at the time of purchase and will be charged the current adult or visiting child meal price, as applicable. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring sufficient funds are available for second meals and other purchases. If you need assistance adding money to a student meal account, please contact your school office or the Nutrition Services Department.
This policy is provided annually to families and staff through ParentSquare and applies to all schools within Columbia School District

We make improvements to our policy based on the assessment results, Wellness Committee, Student, Parent and Community Feedback received. Please view our most recent assessment below.
Wellness Committee
The Columbia School District Wellness Committee supports the health, wellness, and academic success of all students. The committee provides an opportunity for students, parents, staff, and community members to participate in the development, implementation, and review of the District Wellness Policy and Wellness Procedures.
The Wellness Committee meets twice each year to review wellness goals, evaluate progress, and gather stakeholder feedback. Meetings are open to the public, and community participation is encouraged. Feedback may be shared during meetings or at any time by emailing food.service@csd400.org.

School Breakfast Program
What is the School Breakfast Program? The School Breakfast Program (SBP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and non-profit private schools and residential childcare institutions.
How does the Program work? The SBP is generally operated by public or non-profit private schools of high school grade or below. Public or non-profit private residential childcare institutions may also participate in the SBP, and charter schools may participate in the SBP as public schools. School districts and independent schools that choose to participate in the Program must serve breakfast meals meeting Federal nutrition requirements and offer free or reduced-price breakfasts to all eligible children. In exchange, participating institutions receive cash subsidies from the USDA for each reimbursable meal served.
What are the nutrition requirements for school breakfasts? All school breakfasts must meet Federal nutrition requirements, though decisions about the specific foods to serve and how the foods are prepared are made by local school food authorities. Information about the SBP meal pattern requirements may be found on the USDA School Meals website.

FOOD ALLERGIES AND SUBSTITUTIONS
Columbia School District supports access to healthy meals to all children, including children with disabilities who have special dietary needs. Disability is defined as an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity. This can include allergies and digestive conditions. However, it does not include personal diet preferences. The procedure below has been developed to address these priorities.
Upon enrollment in Columbia School District, health history information is gathered. Dietary accommodation forms may also be filled out and turned into your school nurse at anytime during the school year. Concerns about allergies and sensitivities are addressed with the school nurse. Dietary accommodations are reviewed by the school nurse and routed as follows:
- Parent
- Student health file
- Nutrition Services office
- School Cook
As Nutrition Services becomes aware a meal modification is needed, Nutrition Services will not unduly delay providing the modification while awaiting the medical statement. Instead, Nutrition Services will begin providing a reasonable modification to keep the child safe, and request the family provide a medical statement signed by a State Recognized Medical Authority to support the meal modification as soon as possible. Once accommodations have started, parents/guardian will be given 45 days to return the signed Request for Special Dietary Accommodation form to the Nutrition Services Department. Date of approval will be noted on the applicable form(s).
For your clarification, below are rules CSD follows to be compliant with state and federal regulation.
Children with a Disability:
According to state regulation, districts are required to provide reasonable accommodations for children who are considered to have a disability.
Disability is defined by:
- Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act
- American Disabilities Act
- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
The request for substitution must be made on the form included below. It must include the signature of a State licensed health care professional authorized to write medical prescriptions under State law.

- Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
