Superintendent's Message
As we turn the page to November, it’s hard to believe the first quarter of the school year has already come to a close. Friday, October 31st, marked the end of the first quarter, and we are now officially moving into the second quarter. This is an exciting time for our students and staff to reflect on the progress made so far, set new goals, and continue building momentum as we move closer to winter. The past few weeks have been filled with memorable moments that remind us what makes Columbia such a special place to learn and grow, none more meaningful than the celebration of Homecoming and the recognition of one of our own.
On Friday night, October 24th, under the bright lights of the CHS Homecoming football game vs. Finley, Columbia School District proudly recognized longtime educator, coach, and athletic director Mr. Jay Aune for his years of service and lasting impact on our students, staff, and community. In front of a packed crowd of alumni, families, and fans, the district dedicated the 2025 Columbia School District Homecoming to Mr. Aune, celebrating a career that has defined Coyote pride for more than two decades. To top off an unforgettable evening, the Coyotes capped the celebration with a 41–18 victory over the Panthers! Mr. Aune’s retirement marks the close of an incredible chapter for Columbia School District, but his spirit will continue to echo through every gym, classroom, and Coyote huddle. On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, students, and community, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his years of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication. Once a Coyote, always a Coyote!
As we look ahead to November, our focus remains on strengthening connections and celebrating growth across the district. Parent Teacher Conferences will take place the week of November 24, and this year, Columbia School District is striving for 100% family participation from Transitional Kindergarten through High School. For the first time, our CHS students and parents will also be part of the conference experience, meeting with staff to reflect on progress and set meaningful goals for the remainder of the year. We value this partnership and know that strong communication between home and school is key to every student’s success.
Thanksgiving Break will run from November 27–29, and we wish all Coyote families a warm, safe, and restful holiday filled with gratitude and togetherness. As always, please keep an eye on ParentSquare for updates on upcoming events, winter activities, and early December reminders.
From all of us at Columbia School District, thank you for your continued support and commitment to our students. Together, we make Burbank a place where every Coyote can learn, grow, and succeed.
Sincerely, Todd
Hilberg, Superintendent
