NUTRITION SERVICES - HOW ARE WE DOING?
Columbia School District and Sodexo support student engagement and achievement by providing fresh, nutritious, and tasty meals customized to the diverse needs and desires of the student body. Our goal is to provide meal options that keep our students healthy, focused and energetic. We are always seeking your input on our food service program. LUNCH PRICES
Every Columbia School District student is eligible to receive free school meals for the 2023-24 school year. The program allows for one complete breakfast and lunch for each student.
Free meals are made possible by the federally-funded program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Although there is no application for free meals, the district does send out the Family Income Survey. This form is included in registration and mailed out over the summer; however, they can be filled out at any time during the year. The Family Income Survey requests household income information and is used to determine other federal nutrition assistance and education funding, making it critical that parents/guardians return the survey so that Columbia School District is eligible to receive state funding for important educational programs that our students are entitled to. If your family receives this form, we encourage you to fill it out and return it as soon as possible.
Household members do not have to be U.S. citizens to qualify for free meals and completing the form has no impact on immigration status.

Healthy schools produce healthy students. Healthy schools and school districts are those that support good nutrition and physical activity as part of a total learning environment.
Nutrition Education
State legislation requires school districts to develop wellness policies and to set goals for nutrition education, physical activity, food service, and other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness. The Board of Directors annually reviews the District nutrition procedures during a open public meeting annually in February to ensure compliance with federal and state nutrition guidelines. Public comment is always welcome and encouraged.
The Columbia School District Nutrition & Physical Fitness Policy No. 6700 and has taken steps to increase nutritional value of school lunches. The District follows federal nutrition guidelines for foods and beverages sold by the food service program and those sold in vending machines. Students will have opportunities for physical activity and appropriate exercise and accurate information on nutrition and wellness will be available.
