CSD Chromebook info 2021-2022

Columbia School District 1:1 Initiative.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Every CHS and CMS student enrolled with at least 1 core credit class (typically English) will be issued a Chromebook, Case and Charger that will be returned at the end of the school year. Chromebooks will be used to access online textbooks, class content and state testing software. To be ready for class, the expectation for the student is that the Chromebook will be fully charged over night. Chromebooks are internet filtered 24/7 to be compliant with the Children's Internet Protection Act or CIPA.
Update 8/27/2021 For the start of the 2021-2022 school year 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will bring their Chromebooks home each night.   Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders will have Assurance plan fees waived as those Chromebooks will remain at school, unless we switch to a full Elementary take home program later in the year.

In order to protect the Chromebook from damage, loss, and theft, the School District is offering an Assurance Protection Program. The Assurance Program will be based on a student's Free/Reduced lunch status. For as little as $30 per year, or $10 for a student that qualifies for the Free/Reduced lunch program, a student's Chromebook can be fully covered.  If choosing to decline Assurance, charges incurred could be up to $300 depending on damage and age of device.
